Primary Stars Poetry Competition 2018

In February 2018, CACT ran a poetry competition in Alderwood Primary School and Hawksmoor School as part of the Premier League's Primary Stars programme. The theme for the poems was resilience. The winners read their poems out to Charlton Athletic Manager Karl Robinson and defenders Jason Pearce and Harry Lennon. They also received Charlton-themed goodie bags.

The four winning poems were:

The Meaning of Resilience

By Rebecca, Year 6, Alderwood Primary School

When your mistakes lose the round

Here’s a way to turn that frown upside down

Failure is not an option when you have resilience

The only option for you is brilliance

Fall down seven times, get up eight

A phrase that all should say

An “I can” attitude is all you need

To inspire others and do good deeds

Resilience is the key to success

It gives you the ability to do your best

Hopefully now you can see

Resilience is something everyone needs

Without it you are alone

With it you can become a hero

Club Resilience

By Yohan, Year 6, Alderwood Primary School

I was new to the club

I didn’t know what to do

I tried my best

And I finally came through

If you listen carefully

This could be for you

And the overall message is

You can do it too

I am not just saying

Football is for you

I am saying everyone has to persevere

With what they do

Whether I score the goal

Or kick it wide

I will carry on

With pride inside

But even Ronaldo doesn’t stop

Until he gets to the top

So every time you flop, don’t stop

Just aim for the top

Even though it might not be clear

Just know your future is near

To finish here

Let’s make it clear

Be resilient

Even when you see the tears

Because the reward is surely near

Even If You Fail

By Victoria, Year 5, Hawksmoor School

Even if you fail, you’re never out

Even if you fail, you’ll never doubt

Even if you fail, you’re always flying up

Even if you fail, you’ll rise to the top

Even if you fail, the sun will still show

Even if you fail, you still have hope

Even if you fail, you can always cope

Even if you fail, you are resilient

Even if you fail, you’re still brilliant

Be Resilient and You Might Beat The Rest

By Karimat, Year 5, Hawksmoor Primary School

Be resilient and you might beat the rest

Whenever you feel upset

For not being the absolute best

It is important to never forget

Be resilient and you might beat the rest

Whenever you want to give up

Just try to toughen up

Through your hardest of times

Be resilient and you might beat the rest

Be resilient

It will get you anywhere in life

Be resilient

Definitely, you will thrive

Stay up to date...
