Youth Mental Health First Aid

This course is for anyone who works with, lives with or supports young people aged 8 - 18. Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches practical skills that can be used every day. It will help participants to be able to spot signs, offer support and keep young people safe when they are experiencing mental health issues. 

This course could help you to have: 

  • An in depth understanding of young people's mental health and factors that affect wellbeing.
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues. 
  • Confidence to reassure and support a young person in distress.
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening.
  • Knowledge to help a young person recover their health by guiding them to further support  - whether that is through self-help sites, their place of earning, the NHS or a mix - engaging parents and external agencies where appropriate.
  • Ability to support a young person with a long term mental health issue or disability to thrive.
  • Tools to look after your own mental wellbeing.

Learning takes place across four managable sessions, what is Mental Health, Depression and Anxiety, Suicide and Psychosis, Self Harm and Eating Disorders. Through a mix of group presentations and discussions, each session is built around a Youth Mental Health First Aid action plan. You get a Mental Health First Aid manual to keep and refer to whenever you need it. 

After completion of the two days, you'll get a certificate to say you are a Mental Health First Aider accredited by MHFA England.

Mental Health First Aid England value this course at £300. We are able to offer this course: 

£100 for people living, working or volunteering in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

£150 for people living, working or volunteering outside the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
