CACT and University of Greenwich team up with Kick the Habit

Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) has strong links with the University of Greenwich on a range of initiatives, and its Health Improvement Team have teamed up to provide smoking support for those who need it.

After attending the “No smoking day” event at the University’s Avery Hill campus, it was recognised that the students wanted on-campus support to help them to quit smoking. To support the students, the Kick the Habit service is launching a 12-week stop smoking support service at the Avery Hill Campus.

Sessions will take place between 12pm and 2pm in Room G108.

Kick The Habit is commissioned by the Royal Borough of Greenwich and already involves  a variety of successful drop-in clinics throughout the Borough.

Dr Alan Sanders, CACT’s Director of Education, Sport and Health said:

“CACT’s relationship with the University of Greenwich continues to grow through a range of exciting initiatives, and none more so than through Health Improvement.

“There is a real commitment from both organisations to engage with the local community to improve people’s lives and it is this commitment that helps to ensure that we are at the cutting edge of new developments.”

Marianne Boyle, the University of Greenwich’s Head of Sport Strategy, said:

“The University of Greenwich and CACT have enjoyed a close working partnership for many years. However, in the last year this partnership has expanded significantly with the introduction of a jointly delivered two-year Foundation Degree in Community Sport, the increase in work placements available to our students with CACT and, more recently, the development of this new drop-in stop smoking clinic.

“The health and wellbeing of students and staff and ensuring they are provided with the support to lead healthy, active lifestyles is a top priority for the University of Greenwich. We are extremely fortunate that we can utilise the professional services of CACT’S Health Improvement Team to support the existing in-house services available for our students and staff.”
