CACT thanks fans for over £30,000 raised from Legends United game

With all the money now in, Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT) is delighted to announce that over £30,000 was raised from the Legends United match on Sunday 17 September. All proceeds from the event will support CACT’s charitable work at the heart of the community.

Matchday programmes sold out, as did the Q&A and brunch with Scott Minto, Carl Leaburn, Mickey Bennett and Eddie Youds. And ticket sales, sponsorship and donations helped reach the total.

It was a day that was enjoyed all round, with a nail-biting finish as Clive Mendonca scored the winning penalty for Keith Peacock’s XI to beat Dave Berry’s team in a shoot-out after a 3-3 draw.

CACT is grateful for the support from sponsors, Whitecode, Cannon Glass, Mansion House Consulting, Centre Circle Management and Richard Murray, who made the day possible. The Legends United match is part of a series of events organised by the 25th Anniversary Committee to celebrate CAFC’s return to The Valley and the launch of the community scheme.

A recent study independently verified by the University of Greenwich found that each £1 CACT invests is worth £6.89 in social value in the community, so all the funds raised through this event will make a huge difference to CACT’s work.

Sir Stuart Etherington, Chair of the 25th Anniversary Committee, said:

“I’d like to thank all the fans who came along and supported the event, as well as all the sponsors, and of course the legends themselves for making this event such a success.”

Jason Morgan MBE, CACT’s Chief Executive, said:

“£30,000 will make a huge difference to CACT’s work improving health, improving education and employment and reducing crime – thank you to everyone who supported the event.”
