Free family learning sessions at The Valley will take place before future Charlton Athletic home games to equip adults with the skills and knowledge to support their child’s education.
Run by Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT), the first sessions aimed at parents and carers of primary school children are set to take place ahead of the game against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday 28 October, which is also the Club’s Schools Partnership Day.
The scheme, which will cater for up to 10 families at Valley Central Youth Hub before every remaining home league game this season, is hoped to engage parents and carers with their child’s learning, improve relationships and help them to better manage their behaviour.
Workshops include numeracy, reading with your children and phonics.
Parents and carers will also be given take-home booklets full of resources, worksheets and links to games, videos and quizzes to do with their children.
The scheme will see CACT work with primary schools across South East London, particularly in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

“I am excited that parents and their children who may not normally experience a matchday here at Charlton will come and see what the Club and CACT have to offer and become lifelong fans and learners in the process.”
