Welling United Community Trust back the Upbeats to Belfast

The Upbeats will be competing at the George Best Community Cup next month thanks to a generous donation from the Welling United Community Trust.

The team will be flying out and staying in to Belfast to again compete in the competition for disability teams again.

The five-a-side competition, played at the Billy Neil Centre, is for disability football clubs, adult centres and disability organisations with teams made up of players with a learning and/or physical disability and/or sensory impairment.

Hosted by the Irish FA, 60 other teams from around the UK will compete at the two-day annual competition.

The money raised from Charlton Upbeats Day in April has secured the future of the programme, with the donation from Welling United Community Trust allowing the Upbeats to take part in this unique experience.

Jim Dean from Welling United Community Trust said:

"At Welling United Community Trust we have always enjoyed a great relationship with Charlton Athletic Community Trust.

“I have seen the Charlton Upbeats project grow over the years and witness first hand how the project has helped the young people who attend and their families and carers.”

“Some of them I In fact coached myself when they were younger and know their families well. For these reasons we wanted to show our support for the project.”

“We were really inspired to witness how the Charlton community stepped forward once again on The Upbeats day backed the project as they always do. Fundraising is such an important factor in this self funded project and we wanted to contribute.”

“I found out that the Upbeats are again visiting Belfast this year to take part in the George Best Community Cup.”

“We wanted to help and offered to cover the costs of the trip and have agreed pay for all return flights for the 14 players. We wish The Upbeats the best of luck in Belfast and know they will represent Charlton brilliantly."
